Small Town To The World: 又一位〝台灣之光〞

今早，看到一則由自由時報在凌晨三點零八分，〈我也馬上查了其他幾家網路發佈的時間，結果是自由時報最先發佈這則消息。〉發佈出來的文章：溫網》拍下羅迪克　盧彥動晉八強【03:08】時，
第一時間，心裏真是感動，又替盧彥勳覺得驕傲！但他擊敗的選手是來自我住的所在地 ─美國，所以我不知道我該表現高興或失望？？！！！

這次他打破一些歷史紀錄：這是他首度的大滿貫進入8強，更締造出台灣新高。同時也成為自1995年日本選手松岡修造之後，首位晉八強的亞洲選手。藉著這一次比賽，他又把台灣這個名字推到國際上。因為路透社特別提到：盧是唯一僅存的亞洲選手，他是來自台灣。另外美聯社與法新社都特別提到，盧已寫下台灣記錄。

〝Roddick had a break point to lead 5-4 in the fifth but Lu, from Taiwan, saved it and went on to become Asia's first Grand Slam quarter-finalist since 1995.

Lu, who beat Andy Murray at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was understandably delighted and dedicated his victory to his late father, who passed away 10 years ago.

"I am thinking of my family and am really proud of myself," he said. "In that moment of victory I sat and told myself I had done it for my father, for myself and for all the people who have support me.

"I knew Andy is very tough on grass because he has a big serve but I wasn't doing anything different to the last time we met.

"I knew I had to stay with him as in the last two matches, because of the pressure, I overplayed but today I took my time and tried to find chance to win a set.

"I was still thinking of the chance I had in the fourth set tie-break when going into final set but told myself I had to fight as I knew there was no tie-break and he has better serve than me. I didn't believe I can win as he is a better server than me."

He now faces third seed Novak Djokovic in Wednesday's quarter-finals and added: "I don't know how far I can go but I will fight to the end." 〞

〝• It took a week, but finally, on the best tennis day of the year, we had our Grade-A upset of Wimbledon 2010. When Andy Roddick lost to Roger Federer 16-14 in the fifth set of the 2009 Wimbledon final, it was devastating. But there were abundant moral victories and sources of pride. No shame in coming within a few points of beating the best ever. On Monday, Roddick lost 9-7 in the fifth set to little-known Yen-Hsun Lu of Taipei* and, well, as Roddick himself was quick to note: "I'm going to be pissed when I wake up tomorrow."

Lu deserves plenty of credit. Though he stands less than 6 feet tall and seldom serves faster than 120 mph, he wasn't broken in the final four sets. He bedeviled Roddick with low, flat shots and showed off some clever shot-making. He took calculated risks, punished Roddick's backhand and showed no signs of fatigue at any point over four-and-a-half hours. When Lu, 26, lost the fourth set, he would've been well within his rights to deflate (see: Alejandro Falla vs. Federer a week ago.) Instead, he sustained his level in the fifth set and closed out the match with some nifty returning and passing.

Not that this is much consolation for the loser. Roddick turns (gulp) 28 this summer; this was, unmistakably, an opportunity squandered.

Said Roddick: "If I want to consider myself a contender for this tournament, I've got to get through that match."

Exactly.

* Note to the broadcasters: Despite what the ATP media guide might say, Lu is not from Chinese Taipei. He is from Taiwan, the capital of which is Taipei. Lu called his people "Taiwanese" and we should, too.〞

〝"Fifth set, I don't believe I can win, because he's (a) better server than me," Lu said. "But I just tell myself, 'Even (if) I don't believe, I have to fight."'

He pointed to the sky after ending the match with a forehand passing shot, dedicating the victory to his late father, a chicken farmer who died in 2000.

Lu sat in his sideline chair, buried his face in a towel, and immediately thought of his late father, who used to take him to tennis lessons. After Lu became the first man from Taiwan to reach the fourth round at a Grand Slam, his mother and brother went to the hill where his father is buried to give him the good news.〞

看看最近在國外單打獨鬥的這些台灣運動選手，哪一個人的背後沒有他們的血淚辛酸史？尤其在這種無政府的支援，以及語言上的問題，這更是難上加難。所付出的代價就要比別人多，這要不是有那份忍耐、堅持的毅力，即使你有這方面的天份，那也沒有用。

在這裏，再一次的向盧彥勳致敬跟致謝！感謝你再次的讓我們台灣在世界上揚眉吐氣，尤其在這種類似無政府的狀況下！
